Former England National Football Team Star Charged With Three Traffic Offences, Faces Possible Jail Term

Jakarta - Former England national team player Raheem Sterling is facing serious legal trouble after being charged with multiple offences related to a traffic accident in the United Kingdom. The 31-year-old footballer faces potential imprisonment if found guilty of the charges filed against him.

Sterling was charged following a single-vehicle crash while he was driving a Lamborghini on the M3 motorway in Hampshire on 28 May 2026. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police confirmed there are multiple suspected violations connected to this incident.

"Sterling, aged 31 and resident of Berkshire, has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, possession of Class C controlled substances, and failure to provide a required test sample," stated a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police spokesperson, as quoted by The Telegraph on Wednesday.

According to The Sun reports, Sterling could face a prison sentence if convicted on the dangerous driving charge and the drug-related offences.

Sterling's Lamborghini Crashed On The M3 Motorway

The incident occurred shortly before 09.00 local time along the M3 route in Hampshire. The Lamborghini driven by Sterling was observed moving erratically before crashing near the Minley Interchange.

Police confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

"No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries have been reported following the crash," police officials stated.

Despite the absence of casualties, the incident proceeded to become a formal legal case. Sterling was formally charged after investigators completed the crash inquiry process.

This case will proceed to court, and is one of the legal matters now faced by the former Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City player.

Sterling Scheduled For Court Hearing

Sterling is scheduled to attend a first hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on 15 September 2026.

This court proceeding will be the critical next stage that will determine the trajectory of the case, and whether Sterling will be convicted of the charges laid against him.

Any potential prison sentence is entirely dependent on the final legal outcome. At this time, Sterling only holds the status of a defendant, and is presumed innocent until an official court verdict is delivered.
