Persib Faces a Tight Schedule for the 2026/2027 Season, 4 Competitions Await Maung Bandung

Persib Bandung faces a distinct new set of challenges for the 2026/2027 season. After three full successful campaigns under Bojan Hodak, the Blue Princes enter a new era led by Igor Tolic, with a far more congested match schedule.

Beyond just the Super League, Persib will compete across four separate competitions this season. This arrangement will test the squad depth, player stamina, and the team's ability to retain consistency through tight back-to-back fixtures.

Carrying the defending champion status makes Persib's task even heavier. All rival clubs will enter the season determined to break Maung Bandung's dominance, while Asian-level fixtures bring additional cross-border travel and competitive pressure.

These are the four competitions awaiting Persib in the 2026/2027 season:

1. Super League

As reigning title holders, Persib will be the primary target for every competing club in the 2026/2027 Super League.

Beckham Putra and his teammates will face opponents with refreshed squads this campaign. Competition is guaranteed to be far tighter, as every side carries extra motivation to defeat the defending champions.

Persib will open their 2026/2027 Super League run with an away fixture against PSM Makassar on 6 September 2026.

This match will mark the start of Persib's long domestic campaign. Consistency will be the critical foundation here, as the squad will also need to split focus across three other competitions.

2. League Cup

The 2026/2027 season introduces a brand new competition to the national football calendar: the League Cup.

A total of 38 clubs from the Super League and Championship divisions will compete for this trophy.

The League Cup is scheduled to launch on 3 November 2026. However, Persib will not be required to enter the tournament from the preliminary opening rounds.

Persib and Borneo FC - last season's champions and runners-up respectively - have received direct qualification to the quarter-final stage.

Both clubs will only begin their League Cup campaign at the end of January 2027. This special exemption was granted due to both teams also participating in continental Asian competitions.

3. ASEAN Club Championship

This third tournament will be an entirely new experience for Persib. For the first time in club history, Maung Bandung will compete in the 2026/2027 ASEAN Club Championship.

Persib has been drawn into Group B, where they will face 7 other regional clubs. Confirmed opponents include Port FC, Johor Darul Ta'zim, Lion City Sailors and Cong An Ha Noi.

Persib's opening fixture in this tournament is scheduled for 8 October 2026, when they will travel for an away match against Port FC at PAT Stadium, Bangkok.

Participation in this regional tournament brings additional challenges, as Persib will need to manage repeated cross-border travel for fixtures.

Alongside draining player physical energy, these away trips across Southeast Asia will also reduce preparation time for Persib's domestic league matches.

For this reason, squad depth will be one of the most critical factors for Igor Tolic to maintain consistent team performance across the full season.

4. AFC Champions League Two

The fourth competition, and Persib's entry to top tier Asian club football, is the AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2).

As with the previous campaign, winning the domestic Super League earned Persib the right to enter Asian continental competition. However, automatic entry to the group stage is not guaranteed.

Persib must first progress through a single-legged play-off match against Philippines League champions Manila Digger.

This one-off knockout fixture will be hosted at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium on 31 August 2026.

Squad Depth Is The Defining Key

Persib requires robust squad depth to navigate four separate competitions in one season. Igor Tolic will be tested on his ability to rotate first team players properly while keeping the entire squad match-fit.

Fixtures across the Super League, League Cup, ASEAN Club Championship and ACL 2 will all bring different opponent playing styles and different physical demands.

Cross-city and international travel also presents unique logistical challenges. Ultimately Persib must balance focus between defending their domestic title, and chasing success on the Asian stage.
