Robert De Niro is the reason Michelle Monaghan returned to Indonesia to see Komodo dragons.

Hollywood actress Michelle Monaghan has returned to Indonesia for a holiday with her family. This time, the Mission: Impossible III star travelled with one clear goal: to observe Komodo dragons first-hand in their native natural habitat.

Monaghan shared this Indonesia travel story when she appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

During the interview, Monaghan revealed that her decision to visit Komodo National Park originated from a casual conversation with actor and producer Robert De Niro.

Monaghan explained that De Niro had asked her if she ever saw Komodo dragons during her previous holidays to Indonesia.

"Yeah, we had just gotten back from Indonesia. Then he [Robert De Niro] goes 'Oh that's great, did you see the Komodo?'. I answered 'What Komodo?', and he said 'Komodo dragons'", Monaghan stated, as quoted from the official @fallontonight Instagram account.

This question sparked Monaghan's curiosity. She admitted she had known very little about Komodo dragons at the time, and had never encountered this endemic Indonesian animal on her earlier trips.

Robert De Niro Sparked Michelle Monaghan's Interest

After receiving this suggestion from De Niro, Monaghan looked up information about Komodo dragons online. This quick search only deepened her fascination.

"I immediately searched 'Komodo' on Google. I thought 'wow, this is an incredible animal'. So we started planning this trip. I told my family 'we are going back to Indonesia, we are going to Komodo National Park. Bob De Niro told me about it'", Monaghan recounted.

That was how the new travel plan was formed. For this visit, Indonesia was not just a general holiday spot - it was a destination chosen specifically to see Komodo dragons up close.

Monaghan then returned to Indonesia with her family to visit Komodo National Park, and shared moments from the trip on her personal social media accounts.

Encountering Komodo Dragons Became A Memorable Highlight

When Jimmy Fallon referenced the photo Monaghan posted online beside a Komodo dragon, the actress shared that she gained a lot of new knowledge during her time at the conservation area.

"I learned so much about Komodo dragons. But most of all, I got that photo. The second I got back onto the boat that brought us there, all I thought was 'I am going to send this photo to Bob'", said Monaghan.

"As soon as we were back on the boat and the Wi-Fi connected, I sent him the photo. I wrote 'Bob this was amazing, I am at Komodo National Park just like you said'", she added.
