Alexander Isak Scores the Only Goal, Liverpool Defeats Bournemouth 1-0

Liverpool successfully claimed all three points away at Bournemouth with a narrow 1-0 victory on Matchday 5 of the 2026/27 English Premier League, held at Vitality Stadium on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

Alexander Isak was the key figure behind The Reds' win. The Swedish striker netted the decisive goal early in the second half to seal Liverpool's away victory.

This result takes Liverpool to nine points from five matches, temporarily sitting 6th in the English Premier League table. Bournemouth meanwhile remain rooted in 17th place, having collected just three points from their opening five games.

Liverpool looked to take control of the game right from kick-off. Dominik Szoboszlai was one of the side's main threats, firing a free kick in the 10th minute that drifted wide of the Bournemouth goal.

The hosts responded eight minutes later. Evanilson latched onto a through ball, broke into the penalty area and found himself one-on-one with Alisson Becker, but his effort lacked the power to beat the Liverpool goalkeeper who made a straightforward save.

Liverpool created another chance in the 34th minute. Bradley Barcola found space just outside the box and fired a low shot towards the bottom right corner, which Djordje Petrovic did well to parry away.

Szoboszlai tested the defence again from a dead ball situation one minute later. His long-range free kick curled just wide of the left post of Bournemouth's goal.

Liverpool came within inches of opening the scoring just before half time. Isak pounced on a loose ball just inside the penalty area and hit a first time shot, only to see his effort sail over the crossbar.

After the restart, Bournemouth immediately looked to up the pressure. Ryan Christie worked an opening in the 56th minute after beating his marker, but his strike from outside the box drifted off target.

Just one minute later, Liverpool finally broke the deadlock.

Isak reacted sharply when a Liverpool shot deflected off a Bournemouth defender, with the rebound falling perfectly for the striker inside the box.

With the goal left exposed, Isak made no mistake. He slotted the ball home to put Liverpool 1-0 ahead.

Bournemouth pushed hard for an equaliser after falling behind, but Liverpool maintained disciplined defensive organisation that left the hosts struggling to create any clear cut chances.

As the match entered its closing stages, Liverpool had an opportunity to extend their lead from another set piece. Alexis Mac Allister delivered an 86th minute corner, but the cross was overhit and no Liverpool player could connect with the ball.

No further goals were scored before the referee blew the final whistle.

Liverpool closed out the match with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. Alexander Isak's goal proved the difference, as The Reds left Vitality Stadium with all three points secured.
