Asian Games 2026: Indonesian Citizens in Japan are being prepared to become support volunteers for the Indonesian contingent.

The Chef de Mission (CdM) team for the Indonesian Contingent at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games is recruiting Indonesian Citizens residing in Japan as support volunteers for the Red and White Contingent.

This recruitment forms part of Indonesia's non-technical preparations ahead of the 2026 Asian Games, which will be held from 19 September to 4 October.

These volunteers will assist in ensuring all logistics and needs for athletes and officials run smoothly throughout their stay in Japan.

"We have already communicated with Indonesian community representatives based over there. We will recruit them as volunteers for the CdM team," stated Harry Warganegara, Deputy CdM for Indonesia's 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games contingent, while monitoring the Indonesian Soft Tennis team's centralized training camp in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Volunteers Supporting the Indonesian Contingent

Harry explained that the volunteers will carry out various support roles, including serving as Liaison Officers (LO) for the Indonesian contingent.

They will primarily provide assistance from the moment athletes and officials arrive in Japan, right up until their departure once the Asian Games conclude.

"They will work as support personnel or Liaison Officers, assisting our contingent members with arrival and departure procedures, transport arrangements, and other related needs," he stated.

Deploying volunteers from the Indonesian resident community in Japan is expected to help the CdM team manage all operational requirements throughout Asia's largest multi-sport event.

Coordination with Indonesian communities in Japan extends beyond volunteer recruitment. The CdM team is also preparing arrangements for Indonesian supporters who will attend to boost athlete morale during competitions.

Nagoya is one of the key host locations for the 2026 Asian Games. Approximately 28,000 Indonesian citizens reside in the city, making it one of the largest Indonesian population hubs in Japan.

Indonesia House as a Contingent Hub

Alongside mobilising support from local Indonesian communities, the CdM team is also preparing a dedicated facility called Indonesia House.

This venue will act as both an activity centre and information hub for the Indonesian contingent throughout the duration of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Indonesia House is also designed as a rest space for athletes and officials after competitions. Authentic Indonesian food and beverages will be provided on site for contingent members.

This facility is part of the CdM team's efforts to create a comfortable, familiar environment for the contingent while they compete in Japan.

Indonesian Contingent Exceeds 500 Personnel

The total Indonesian contingent that will be deployed to the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will number over 500 people.

This breakdown includes 432 athletes, 148 officials, plus approximately 60 staff members assigned to the CdM team.

This scale of personnel reflects the significant logistical and coordination work that must be completed prior to the contingent's departure for Japan.

The CdM team is responsible for managing all non-technical requirements for the contingent. This includes handling arrival and departure logistics, accommodation, catering, transport, and all other supporting needs.

All these preparations are being put in place so that athletes can remain fully focused on their duties at the competition venues.

By engaging Indonesian residents based in Japan, the CdM team is not only strengthening logistical support, but also building connections with Indonesian communities in the host nation.

It is hoped that this support will provide additional motivation for the Red and White athletes to compete at their best during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
