JGS Indonesia meets Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, discusses efforts to strengthen national junior golf development.

Jakarta - Efforts to strengthen the development of Indonesia's junior golf sector formed one of the core agendas during an official meeting between The Junior Golf Series (JGS) Indonesia and Republic of Indonesia Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Erick Thohir, held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Office in Jakarta on Thursday (3/9/2026).

JGS Indonesia General Chairman Rido Nurul Adityawan attended the meeting alongside the full national board of the organisation.

Discussions covered a series of strategic plans to strengthen both competition circuits and structured development pathways for Indonesian junior golfers.

One primary agenda item was final preparations for the 2026 Indonesian Junior Masters (IJM), scheduled to take place in November 2026.

The IJM is designated as a flagship event on the official JGS Indonesia competition calendar.

This tournament is designed to deliver high-calibre competitive opportunities for junior athletes, while supporting long-term sustainable athlete development programmes.

Beyond 2026 competition plans, JGS Indonesia also presented proposals for both national and international tier tournaments to be held in 2027.

Expansion of the competition calendar forms part of wider efforts to build match experience for young Indonesian golfers, including opportunities to benchmark their ability against international standards.

Strengthening Early Age Development

Early age and junior athlete development was established as a central priority during the meeting.

For JGS Indonesia, structured and continuous competition circuits play a critical foundational role in the development of young golfers.

Tournaments operate not only as platforms for competitive achievement, but also to build match experience, develop competitive mental resilience, and enable consistent tracking of athlete progress over time.

Delivering effective development programmes also requires a properly supported and resourced competition ecosystem.

For this reason, upgrades to junior golf tournament infrastructure and facilities was also raised as a key discussion point with the Ministry.

Improvements to tournament facilities and operational standards are expected to accelerate the progress of junior golfers, while creating a fairer and more supportive competitive environment for young Indonesian athletes.

This official meeting with Minister Erick Thohir represents a key milestone for JGS Indonesia to formalise synergy with the government for building a national junior golf ecosystem.

This partnership is intended to support the full long-term athlete development pipeline: from scouting talent at early ages, providing sufficient competitive opportunity, through to preparing athletes for international level competition.

Rido Nurul Adityawan confirmed JGS Indonesia's full commitment to ongoing collaboration, with the goal of producing a generation of young golfers capable of representing Indonesia on the global stage.
