2026 MotoGP World Champion Will Be Determined By Consistency, Is Gigi Dall'Igna Warning Marc Marquez?

The battle for the 2026 MotoGP World Championship title has entered its critical phase. Ducati Corse General Manager Gigi Dall'Igna has assessed that this season's title will not be decided solely by the number of race wins, but by each rider's ability to maintain consistent performance all the way through the final championship round.

According to Dall'Igna, performance across every remaining grand prix will act as the separating factor. Riders who can keep accumulating points and avoid poor results hold the greatest chance of lifting the world championship trophy.

"It is my belief that this world title will be won by whoever puts in the best performance from this moment until the conclusion of the championship calendar," Dall'Igna stated in remarks sourced from official MotoGP channels on Thursday.

Consistency Is More Important Than Individual Race Wins

Dall'Igna noted that riders must not become overly focused on winning single championship rounds. When the title race tightens, consistently scoring points becomes a far more valuable strategy.

"You can win the world championship with very few individual race wins. All you need is to run consistent, steady performances — and above everything else, you cannot afford to walk away from a round with zero points," he said.

This statement highlights just how critical it is to manage the points gap with championship rivals. Riders who consistently finish in upper positions will steadily build their points reserve, even on weekends where a race victory is out of reach.

Conversely, a single scoreless weekend can deliver a massive setback when the entire championship battle is separated by only a few dozen points.

Ducati Remains In Position To Defend Their Title

Ducati is currently chasing consecutive world championship titles following Marc Marquez's triumph in the previous season. Their prospects remain wide open, especially with Marquez once again positioned at the top end of the standings.

The Ducati Lenovo rider just delivered a perfect race weekend at the Aragon Grand Prix. Marquez claimed victory in the sprint race before also taking first place in Sunday's main grand prix at MotorLand Aragon, Spain.

This win marks Marquez's third straight victory at the Aragon Grand Prix, after also winning the event in 2024 and 2025.

Overall, MotorLand Aragon ranks as one of Marquez's most successful circuits, with a total of eight career wins recorded at the Spanish track.

Marquez left the Aragon weekend with the maximum possible 37 points. This haul moved him up to 2nd place in the provisional 2026 MotoGP standings with a total of 237 points.

Even so, his position is not yet secure.

Marc Marquez Chases Championship Leader Jorge Martin

Marquez sits 19 points behind Aprilia Racing's Jorge Martin, who continues to lead the standings on 256 points. Marco Bezzecchi occupies 3rd place with 232 points.

This relatively narrow points gap keeps the championship fight wide open. Marquez only needs to deliver consistent results across the remaining rounds to keep closing the gap to Martin.

For Martin meanwhile, he carries the pressure of defending the top standings position. Any poor result from the championship leader will immediately create an opening for the chasing pack to close in.

This context makes Dall'Igna's advice particularly relevant for Marquez right now. While the Aragon victory has provided a huge momentum boost, the true challenge lies in sustaining this form through the upcoming block of race rounds.

Ducati also has a major stake in this consistent performance. If Marquez can keep registering points finishes and avoid scoreless weekends, the manufacturer's chances of retaining the world championship title will grow increasingly strong.
