Watch Mandalika MotoGP While Camping on the Beach: A Unique Way to Enjoy the Race Event in Lombok

Watching the Indonesian MotoGP at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, does not always have to mean staying in a hotel. For the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP edition, visitors will be offered an alternative accommodation experience far closer to nature, via dedicated camping ground and campervan options.

The InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is preparing prototype camping ground and campervan experience facilities as accommodation choices for spectators attending the Mandalika MotoGP, scheduled for 9-13 October 2026.

This concept offers a distinct way to enjoy one of Indonesia's biggest sporting events. After spending the day watching riders compete on track, visitors will be able to stay overnight in open, outdoor surroundings set against the coastal landscape.

"This innovation is our answer for visitors who want to attend the Mandalika MotoGP in a different way," stated ITDC Operations Director Troy Warokka in Central Lombok on Friday.

According to Warokka, camping is no longer just a travel niche for specific groups. This activity has evolved into a mainstream lifestyle preference, even among high-income travellers who actively choose camping holidays as they are considered both healthier and better value.

"We want to develop Mandalika differently. This is our response to visitors coming to watch the Indonesian MotoGP," he added.

Alternative For Spectators Travelling By Motorcycle

The camping ground concept was also designed specifically to address the needs of MotoGP spectators who travel to the event from across the country on two-wheeled vehicles.

Warokka noted that large numbers of spectators make the overland journey by motorcycle from as far as Aceh, Medan, and all across Java. For this group, affordable, easily accessible accommodation is a critical requirement.

"We are rolling out this camping ground accommodation option specifically for the MotoGP event," remarked the Chairman of the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP organising committee.

This initiative originated from discussions with local providers able to supply camping equipment, while all required utilities and supporting facilities will be prepared by the area management authority.

Over the past three months, ITDC and its technical team have conducted assessments on multiple candidate sites. Beachfront zones were ultimately selected due to easy access, clear visibility, and existing supporting public infrastructure.

"We reviewed quite a number of possible locations, and selected the most practical, accessible sites. In the last one to two weeks we finalised that this setup will be established along the full stretch of Mandalika Beach," he explained.

This location choice means attending the MotoGP will become more than just a visit to the circuit. Visitors will be able to combine the sporting event with an immersive coastal Mandalika holiday experience.

Camping As A Catalyst For Coastal Tourism Development

One major advantage of the selected sites is existing basic amenities. Toilets, retail outlets, general stores, and site entry/exit points are all already within easy reach.

With this base infrastructure in place, the camping grounds are not only intended as temporary accommodation for MotoGP spectators. Long term, these facilities are also designed to drive further sustainable tourism development along Mandalika's coastline.

"One of our core long term visions is for this area to grow into a well-maintained, world-class popular beach tourist destination," Warokka stated.

This concept also gives visitors a distinct experience during their stay in Mandalika. While hotels offer private enclosed comfort, camping and campervan stays deliver a far more immersive experience connected directly to the natural landscape and coastal atmosphere.

For Mandalika, the MotoGP event also presents a perfect opportunity to showcase its full range of tourism experiences. Visitors will not only travel here to watch the race, but can integrate the circuit and surrounding area into a longer holiday itinerary.

Simplified Integrated Travel Packages

Meanwhile, public interest in the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP continues to show strong positive growth. At the time of this announcement, ticket sales have already reached approximately 50%, including large bulk corporate purchases.

Industry support for the event is also expanding widely. Sponsors, travel agencies and airlines are all partnering to deliver a range of flexible travel options for visiting spectators.

This collaboration means travel to Mandalika can now be bundled into complete, seamless holiday packages. Visitors no longer need to arrange every component of their trip, including accommodation, independently.

"Travel agencies are already listing these packages. The public is now realising you do not have to book a hotel room every night to attend the MotoGP. Travel arrangements have become much simpler," he noted.

For visitors, these options make experiencing the Mandalika MotoGP far more flexible. Travelling to Lombok for the race, staying at the beachfront camping grounds, enjoying the coastline, then continuing on with further holiday travel will be offered as a fully integrated experience for the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP event.
