Indonesia U20 carry positive momentum into their decisive final Group H fixture of the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers against Australia. However, head coach Nova Arianto has identified one critical unfinished task for the Garuda Muda squad to resolve immediately: clinical finishing in the final third.
Indonesia are scheduled to face Australia at the National Stadium, Vientiane on Sunday 6 September, kick-off 16:00 local time. This match will be a major test for Garuda Nusantara, who currently hold 4 points from their opening two qualification matches.
Nova has stated that attacking efficiency in front of goal requires urgent focus. This evaluation follows Indonesia's 3-0 victory over Laos the previous Thursday.

"That is exactly our homework that we must fix before we face Australia next," stated Nova, quoted from an official press release received in Jakarta on Friday.
The win against Laos moved Indonesia to the top of the provisional Group H standings. With 4 points, Indonesia only hold their lead over second-placed Australia on goal difference.
This scenario guarantees a tightly fought contest between the two nations. Indonesia are not only required to defend their position at the top of the group, but must also maximise every attacking opportunity they create against Australia.
Nova admitted he was largely satisfied with his squad's performance against Laos. Even so, the victory also exposed multiple areas of the team's game that still require improvement.
Chief among these priorities is converting created chances into goals. Scoring opportunities will not come as frequently against Australia as they did against Laos, making clinical efficiency a decisive match factor.
Nova Arianto Eager To Secure First Win Over Australia
Beyond technical match preparations, this fixture carries personal meaning for Nova Arianto. The coach, who previously managed the Indonesia U17 national squad, has revealed he has never recorded a victory against Australia at any youth international level, and is determined to break this streak.
He intends to use this upcoming meeting as the opportunity to end this run.
"For me personally, I am really driven for this Australia match. Across U17 and U20 level I have never beaten them with any of my teams. So we will give absolutely everything when we face them," Nova explained.
However, this desire for victory will be balanced with proper caution. Nova acknowledged Australia possess high quality both as individual players and as a cohesive organised unit.
For this reason, Indonesia must maintain full discipline from the opening minute of the match. Defensive concentration and clinical conversion of attacking chances will be the two critical factors that determine the final result.
"They are an extremely well-drilled collective side, that is exactly what we are preparing for. We can only hope our players are able to perform at their best against Australia," he concluded.
With Indonesia and Australia both level on 4 points, the clash in Vientiane will be a direct head-to-head battle for first place in Group H. Only the group winner will qualify automatically for the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup finals tournament.
