Indonesia U20 National Team has secured a spot in the final round of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup. This confirmation was obtained after Garuda Muda defeated Australia U20 National Team with a 2-0 score in the final Group H qualification match, held at Lao National Stadium KM16, Laos on Sunday.

Indonesia's victory was sealed by two goals, scored by Theodore Evan Leeming and Amar Rayhan Brkic respectively.

Evan opened Indonesia's lead in the 28th minute. Meanwhile, Amar confirmed Garuda Muda's win with a goal during second half stoppage time, precisely in the 90+2 minute.

Under the guidance of Nova Arianto, the Indonesia U20 National Team played with confidence right from the start of the match. Their organised gameplay allowed Garuda Muda to control the tempo of the game while restricting Australia's movement space.

Indonesia actually created their first chance as early as the 11th minute. Fabio Azkairawan successfully received a long pass from the backline before attempting to play the ball through to Evan Leeming inside the penalty box.

However, Evan was unable to control the ball cleanly, meaning this opportunity did not develop into a serious threat against Australia's goal.

Indonesia renewed their pressure in the 25th minute. Amar Rayhan Brkic made a driving run down the left flank before attempting to play a cutback pass into the danger area.

The ball was successfully intercepted by an Australian defender, only awarding Indonesia a corner kick.

Zahaby Gholy stepped up to take the corner. The delivery was met by Muhamad Ibrah Ardiansyah who attempted a headed finish, but the ball drifted wide of the target.

Evan Leeming Opens Indonesia's Lead

The goal Indonesia had been searching for finally arrived three minutes later.

In the 28th minute, sharp play from Zahaby Gholy created a clear goalscoring opportunity. The Adhyaksa player's pass found Evan Leeming, who had timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap.

Evan found himself one-on-one with Australian goalkeeper Robert James Almeida Cook. The number 10 forward fooled the keeper by lifting the ball over his body.

Not stopping there, Evan followed up his own lobbed touch with a headed finish into the back of the net.

Indonesia took a 1-0 lead.

This advantage only boosted Garuda Muda's confidence further. Five minutes before half time, Evan got another opportunity to extend the lead.

After cutting inside from the left wing, Evan fired a powerful left-footed shot. However, the effort sailed over the Australian crossbar.

No further goals were scored before the end of the first half. Indonesia went into the break holding a 1-0 advantage.

Australia Fail To Break Down Garuda Muda's Defence

As the second half kicked off, Australia attempted to turn the tide of the match. Trevor Brian Morgan's side increased their pressure and pushed forward more aggressively in search of an equaliser.

Indonesia responded by maintaining their defensive structure. Garuda Muda's backline remained disciplined, leaving Australia struggling to create clear cut chances in front of Dafa Al Gasemi's goal.

Australia did not register another chance until the 83rd minute, from a dead ball situation.

Beckham Nicolez Soares Baker took the free kick for Australia. His attempt did not trouble Dafa Al Gasemi, who gathered the ball comfortably.

As the match entered its closing stages, Australia committed more players forward and left their defensive line exposed as they chased an equalising goal.

This situation was perfectly exploited by Indonesia to launch counter attacks.

The payoff came almost immediately in stoppage time. Exactly in the 90+2 minute, Amar Rayhan Brkic doubled Indonesia's lead.

Amar struck a right-footed shot aimed at the near post. The Australian goalkeeper could not keep the effort out, taking the scoreline to 2-0.

This goal confirmed Garuda Muda's full victory over Australia.

Indonesia Crowned Group H Winners

These three additional points see the Indonesia U20 National Team conclude their qualification campaign with an impressive record.

Garuda Muda finished with seven points from three matches, claiming top spot in Group H. Even more notably, Indonesia scored five goals and did not concede a single goal throughout the entire qualification phase.

This first place finish earned Indonesia an automatic ticket to the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup final tournament, as one of the eight group winners.

As group winners, Indonesia did not need to wait for the result of the remaining Group H fixture between Malaysia and Laos to confirm their qualification.

The 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup is scheduled to be hosted in China next March. This tournament also acts as a key qualification stage for participating nations attempting to secure a spot at the 2027 FIFA U20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

For the Indonesia U20 National Team, this successful qualification provides vital momentum as they prepare to compete at the next higher level of international football.
