Romeny and Hubner Trusted From Kickoff
Fortuna Sittard head coach placed full trust in Justin Hubner to organise the defensive line. The Indonesia international defender filled one of three centre-back positions alongside Syb van Ottele and Pinto.
Meanwhile Ole Romeny was given a more attacking role. He was deployed as an attacking midfielder alongside Mohammed Ihattaren, to support Lequincio Zeefuik who operated as the side's main striker.
Romeny immediately showed his aggressive intensity right from the start of the fixture. Just five minutes into the match, the Indonesian international tested the opposition with a struck effort from outside the penalty box.
However Cambuur goalkeeper Thijs Jansen successfully read and saved the attempt.
Only one minute later, Fortuna Sittard broke the deadlock. Philip Brittijn opened the scoring with a headed finish after working a corner kick routine.
The home side extended their lead comfortably in the 15th minute, as Zeefuik finished off a fast counter attack to make the score 2-0.
Cambuur did not surrender easily. In the 22nd minute, Rafik El Arguioui pulled a goal back to make it 2-1, opening up the flow of the match.
Hubner Narrowly Missed Scoring
Justin Hubner also received an opportunity to register his name on the scoresheet.
The Indonesian defender threatened Cambuur's goal with a headed attempt from a free kick delivery. Unfortunately his effort drifted just wide of the target.
As the first half drew to a close, Romeny created another goalscoring chance, this time striking an attempt from inside the penalty area.
Once again Romeny's effort was denied by Jansen, leaving the 2-1 scoreline unchanged going into half time.
Throughout the second half, Fortuna Sittard were forced to work hard to defend their lead. Cambuur continuously pushed for an equaliser, while the home side attempted to exploit open space on counter attacks.
Fortuna finally confirmed their victory during stoppage time.
Shiloh Zand scored the third goal for the home side, sealing all three points for Fortuna Sittard with the final 3-1 result.
This result keeps Fortuna Sittard in the upper half of the Eredivisie table after two matches. For Romeny and Hubner, their full starting appearances provide positive early momentum for their club career during the opening stages of the 2026/27 season.
