Bayern Munich Wins Telekom Cup, Musiala Scores a Goal Before Collapsing

Bayern Munich concluded their 2026/27 pre-season campaign by lifting the Telekom Cup trophy. Die Roten secured the title after defeating fellow Bundesliga side RB Leipzig 3-1 at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.

This victory marked a positive close to Bayern's preparations ahead of the new season. However, the match was also marred by several concerning moments for the home side, most notably when Jamal Musiala suddenly collapsed during the second half.

Additionally, Bayern were forced into early substitutions for Kim Min-jae and Konrad Laimer, who both left the pitch after sustaining injury issues.

Luis Diaz Puts Bayern Ahead

Bayern immediately looked to take control of the game right from kick-off. Their pressure paid off in the 13th minute when the home side broke the deadlock.

A failed clearance from a Leipzig player fell favourably for Bayern. Ridle Baku's attempted block deflected off his own teammate, dropping the ball straight to Luis Diaz's feet.

Making no mistake with the opportunity, the Colombian winger fired a curling shot into the far corner. Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt was unable to reach the effort, putting Bayern 1-0 up.

Leipzig increased their attacking intensity following the half-time break. Substitute Johan Bakayoko emerged as one of the primary threats to Bayern's backline.

Bakayoko forced Manuel Neuer into a fine fingertip save, before shortly afterwards going close once again with an effort that struck the goalpost.

Leipzig's pressure finally resulted in a goal in the 52nd minute. Brajan Gruda drew the sides level with a well-struck volley after receiving the ball inside the penalty area.

Bayern Regain The Lead, Musiala Health Scare

The equaliser only stood for five minutes. Bayern retook control of the match through Nathaniel Brown.

The recent Bayern signing broke free on a one-on-one opportunity after latching onto a through ball from Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Brown kept his composure when facing Vandevoordt, slotting his finish between the goalkeeper's legs to restore Bayern's lead at 2-1.

Concerns began to arise in the 69th minute, when Kim Min-jae was forced off the pitch with an injury.

At the same stoppage, head coach Vincent Kompany made a batch of substitutions. Ismael Saibari was handed his Bayern debut, with Musiala also among the six players brought onto the pitch.

Musiala made an immediate impact. He linked up brilliantly with Saibari before driving forward with a solo run, then curling a finish past the Leipzig keeper.

This goal extended Bayern's advantage to 3-1.

Bayern's celebrations were cut short just moments later however, as Musiala caused alarm across the entire squad when he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed on the pitch.

Medical staff immediately entered the playing area and prepared a stretcher to evacuate the German international.

Musiala was eventually able to walk off the pitch unassisted. He had only featured for approximately 17 minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Initial reports indicated Musiala's collapse was related to extreme pitch heat exposure, rather than being a sign of any serious underlying injury.

No further goals were scored for the remainder of the match. Bayern Munich confirmed their 3-1 victory, lifting the Telekom Cup trophy to round off their pre-season schedule.

Attention now turns to competitive fixtures for Bayern. Die Roten are scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup, also known as the DFL-Supercup, next week.
