The presence of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in Indonesia will bring far more than just a world-class musical performance. The Ministry of Tourism projects that the series of concerts for the Romanza 30th Anniversary World Tour held at Borobudur Temple in Magelang and Jakarta will generate a total economic impact of 44 million US dollars, equivalent to approximately IDR 792 billion.

These concerts are scheduled to be held at the Borobudur Temple complex on 31 October 2026, followed by a second show at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran on 3 November 2026.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that Bocelli's concert serves as a prime example of how international events can be leveraged to boost both the tourism sector and local regional economies.

"From our perspective, hosting large-scale international events carries strategic value for the tourism industry. Beyond strengthening the image and brand identity of destinations, these events also act as demand generators that stimulate wide-ranging economic activities within the host regions," Widiyanti stated during a press conference at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.

Thousands of Attendees Projected

The Ministry of Tourism estimates that Andrea Bocelli's concerts will draw around 7,000 attendees at the Borobudur venue and 9,000 attendees in Jakarta.

However, the full economic impact is not limited to ticket sales alone. Visitor movement throughout the concert series is projected to drive activity across multiple sectors, including accommodation, transportation, food and beverage, as well as all supporting businesses for the event production.

According to Widiyanti, attendee spending will also flow to event vendors, micro, small and medium enterprise operators, performing artists, and all local communities involved in organising the concerts.

This framework means the concert will not function solely as entertainment, but as an active demand generator that creates economic activity across the entire surrounding area of the event venues.

International Visitors Encouraged To Explore Yogyakarta and Central Java

The Ministry of Tourism has prepared a number of strategies to ensure attendees, especially international visitors, do not only travel to Indonesia exclusively for the concert before departing immediately.

One of the supporting measures is facilitating visa processing for all performing artists through coordination with relevant government ministries and institutions. The Ministry will also provide simplified import clearance procedures for all concert production logistics.

Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with Garuda Indonesia for the Free Add-on Tickets programme for international visitors, applicable under the established terms and conditions.

Through this programme, foreign travellers flying with Garuda Indonesia whose primary destination is Jakarta or Bali will be eligible for a complimentary round-trip domestic flight to Yogyakarta.

This initiative is intended to create opportunities for concert attendees to extend their travel to other tourist destinations around Borobudur and across Central Java.

The Ministry of Tourism is also working alongside travel agencies and tour operators to prepare curated travel packages that visitors may select during their stay in the Borobudur area.

The core strategy is straightforward: the concert will act as the initial draw for visitor arrivals, while surrounding tourist attractions will provide reason for travellers to extend their length of stay.

Distinct Roles For Borobudur and Jakarta Venues

The selection of both Borobudur and Jakarta as concert locations was made with deliberate purpose.

Borobudur represents Indonesia's rich cultural and historical heritage, while Jakarta showcases the modern, urban side of the nation as a major city with an established track record of hosting international events.

Widiyanti explained that this pairing presents a valuable opportunity to showcase the diverse identity of Indonesia to international audiences.

"Indonesia offers an incredibly wide range of visitor experiences. We are home to world-renowned heritage destinations, while also boasting modern cities fully capable of hosting world-class events," she stated.

Prajna Murdaya, Founder of Shoemaker Studios, explained that Borobudur was selected specifically as its cultural and historical values align perfectly with the character of Andrea Bocelli's classical music repertoire.

The Borobudur concert will also feature a Cultural Village zone, showcasing traditional performing arts, local cuisine, and the full range of tourism offerings from Magelang and Central Java.

All concert ticket holders will also receive complimentary access to enter Borobudur Temple on the day of the performance.

Indonesia The Only Asian Nation On Bocelli's Tour

This concert series carries special significance for Indonesia's standing on the global tourism map. Indonesia is the only country in Asia included in Andrea Bocelli's worldwide tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his Romanza album.

For the Ministry of Tourism, this opportunity will be used to integrate the global reach of the entertainment industry with destination promotion for Indonesia.

This same approach has already been implemented for a number of events supported by the Ministry. As of July 2026, 105 supported events have already been successfully held.

Impact assessments for completed events have recorded over 6.47 million total visitors, engaged approximately 11,000 MSMEs, and provided work for 184,000 performing artists and local community members. Total economic turnover generated from these activities is estimated at IDR 1 trillion.

For the full 2026 calendar year, the Ministry of Tourism targets supporting 206 events through the Event by Indonesia programme. This programme covers regional, national and international events, as well as MICE activities.

With its projected IDR 792 billion economic impact, Andrea Bocelli's concert is positioned as a flagship demonstration of how world-class performances can deliver widespread benefits for host destinations and local communities.

For visitors, this concert offers far more than just the chance to experience one of the world's most celebrated tenors live. It presents an opportunity to visit Borobudur Temple, explore Magelang and Central Java, and experience the unique fusion of world-class international music with Indonesia's extraordinary cultural heritage.
