Fierce Persija vs Persib Clash at GBK: Their First Meeting Held in Jakarta in 7 Years

The match between Persija Jakarta and Persib Bandung has finally received official venue confirmation. I.League Chief Executive Officer Ferry Paulus confirmed that this 2026/27 Super League second week fixture will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on the upcoming 12 September.

This confirmation also revives one of the most iconic stages in Indonesian football. Persija and Persib will face off in Jakarta, a scenario that last occurred back in 2019.

"(Persija vs Persib) It will be at GBK. The stadium itself is already fully prepared," Ferry stated during the official kick-off ceremony for BRI Super League 2026/27 in Jakarta on Tuesday.

A Persija vs Persib fixture is never just an ordinary match on the competition calendar. Every meeting between these two sides carries a distinct atmosphere, with their long-running rivalry capturing the full attention of Indonesian football fans long before kickoff.

For the time being, there are no changes to either the match schedule or venue. Ferry confirmed that league organisers are maintaining ongoing coordination with Indonesian National Police Headquarters to ensure all security and event implementation aspects proceed as planned.

"Naturally the league will operate based on the published schedule. That said, we have also followed up and consulted with National Police Headquarters to verify whether there will be any adjustments for the 12th. We have formally notified police authorities that this Persija-Persib match will draw massive national attention," Ferry explained.

Ferry noted that police authorities fully understand the scale of public interest surrounding this fixture.

"National Police Headquarters have also acknowledged this fact. Persija has also held formal consultations with local law enforcement, specifically the Metro Jaya Regional Police, as well as GBK stadium management. As of now, everything remains on schedule. This is not merely verbal confirmation - this has developed into a finalised, agreed match schedule that will proceed," he added.

Return to Jakarta After Seven Years

Barring any last-minute changes, the 12 September match will mark the first meeting between Persija and Persib held in Jakarta in seven years.

Persija last hosted Persib in Jakarta on 10 July 2019. That fixture, also held at SUGBK, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Since that match, all of Persija's home fixtures against Persib have been relocated outside Jakarta. Multiple considerations led to the decision to move this high-tension fixture away from the capital.

This situation means the upcoming 12 September match carries special significance. Alongside being part of the 2026/27 Super League campaign, this duel will bring one of Indonesia's greatest football rivalries back to the city that has always been Persija's home.

Last season the arrangement went even further: Persija was forced to host Persib entirely outside Java Island, at Segiri Stadium in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

Now both teams return to a ground that is familiar territory for Persija, right at the core of this historic rivalry. SUGBK is not just a match venue - it is also an iconic backdrop that has featured throughout the entire history of encounters between these two clubs.

This fixture will also serve as an early season test for both sides. While the second week of the competition is still very early in the campaign, this meeting carries a fundamentally different character to every other match. Three league points remain formally important, but the weight of pride, pressure and supporter expectation means the final result will carry far greater meaning.

For Persija, playing at SUGBK means finally getting the chance to host their arch rivals at home in Jakarta once again. For Persib meanwhile, this visit brings the unique challenge of facing their rivals inside the largest football stadium in Indonesia.
