Arsenal staged a comeback against Chelsea, Odegaard became the decisive player behind their 2-1 victory.

Arsenal secured a crucial victory in the London derby after defeating Chelsea 2-1 in the third matchweek of the 2026/27 English Premier League.

Held at Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening, 6 September 2026 WIB, the fixture got off to a shocking start for the home side. Chelsea took an early lead through Morgan Rogers, who found the net just two minutes after kickoff.

However, Arsenal did not take long to regain their momentum. Kai Havertz equalised before Martin Ødegaard put The Gunners ahead in the second half.

This three-point haul keeps Arsenal at the upper end of the Premier League table. The Gunners have now collected nine points from three matches, level with league leaders Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Chelsea sit in fourth place with six points from their opening three fixtures.

Chelsea made an immediate electric start to the game. Morgan Rogers received the ball just inside the penalty area, found space, and fired a well-placed shot.

The ball flew into the left-hand side of David Raya's goal, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Chelsea found themselves 1-0 up with only two minutes on the clock.

Arsenal immediately upped their attacking intensity in search of an equaliser. They looked to have found one in the 12th minute, when Riccardo Calafiori converted a loose ball inside Chelsea's defensive box.

Arsenal's celebrations were cut short, however. Following a VAR review, Calafiori's goal was ruled out for offside during the attacking build-up.

Continuing to pile on pressure, Arsenal finally broke through in the 25th minute. Kai Havertz latched onto a perfectly weighted through pass to penetrate the Chelsea defence.

The German forward produced a clinical finish into the bottom right corner of the goal, levelling the score at 1-1 and bringing Arsenal back into the contest.

Just before half-time, Chelsea came close to retaking control of the match. Pedro Neto skipped past two Arsenal defenders with a solo run before unleashing a strike from outside the penalty area.

This effort failed to hit the back of the net however, as the ball crashed against the left post of Arsenal's goal.

Arsenal came out with far greater aggression in the second half. Just five minutes after the restart, Martin Ødegaard turned the game on its head for the home side.

The Arsenal captain received the ball on a rapid counter attack. With clear time and space to pick his spot, Ødegaard fired a powerful strike into the top corner of the goal.

Arsenal took a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute.

Chelsea refused to back down and continued to push for an equaliser. Malo Gusto had an opportunity from the edge of the box in the 61st minute, but his effort flew over the crossbar.

Another chance arrived two minutes later for Cole Palmer. Picked out inside the penalty area, Palmer struck first time directly towards goal.

David Raya once again showed his composure between the sticks. The Arsenal goalkeeper held the shot cleanly to preserve his side's advantage.

Chelsea cranked up the pressure as the match entered its closing stages. In the 89th minute, Estêvão created space for himself with a solo dribble before firing from outside the penalty area.

Once again, Raya stood firm. The Arsenal shot-stopper pulled off a sharp save to deny Chelsea and prevent the visitors from finding a late equaliser.

Arsenal held on to their 2-1 lead until the final whistle.

This victory over Chelsea means The Gunners have won all three of their opening 2026/27 Premier League matches to take nine points. This result keeps Arsenal firmly in the upper title race alongside Manchester City.
