Real Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with a victory over Inter Milan. Playing at the Santiago Bernabéu in the early hours of Wednesday 9 September WIB, Los Blancos secured a 2-1 win after capitalising on two fatal defensive blunders from the visiting side.

Kylian Mbappé was one of the goalscorers for Madrid's winning result. The French forward put Los Blancos ahead in the 14th minute, before an error from Inter's goalkeeper handed the home side another advantage nine minutes later.

Inter attempted to break free from Madrid's pressure. However, relentless pressing applied by José Mourinho's squad left the Nerazzurri backline unable to build up their game properly.

Mbappé Capitalises On Inter's Mistake

Madrid did not take long to convert their pressure into a goal. In the 14th minute, Inter lost possession just outside their penalty box after failing to cope with Madrid's press. The ball then fell to the feet of Brahim Díaz.

Brahim Díaz did not waste the opportunity, sliding the ball through to Mbappé who was positioned in a dangerous unmarked spot.

Mbappé kept his composure to produce a clinical finish. His shot could not be stopped by Josep Martínez.

Madrid took a 1-0 lead, with the match momentum swinging firmly in the home side's favour.

This goal perfectly demonstrated how Madrid used high pressing to force opponents into committing mistakes inside dangerous areas.

Inter had not even found their match rhythm yet, and were already forced to chase the deficit.

Second Error Extends Madrid's Lead

Nine minutes after Mbappé's goal, Inter made another defensive mistake.

This time Josep Martínez was at the centre of the error. The Inter goalkeeper attempted to build play from the back using short passes.

However his attempt to bypass Valverde ended in disaster. Valverde instead intercepted the ball and fired it straight into the net.

Madrid grabbed their second goal without needing to construct a long attacking sequence. Inter fell 0-2 behind, left in a dire position before the first half concluded.

Carlos Augusto Gives Inter A Lifeline

As the second half kicked off, Inter tried to turn the tide of the match. They increased their pressure and searched for gaps in Madrid's defence.

This effort finally paid off in the 77th minute.

Inter built an attack down the flank before Lautaro Martínez delivered a cross into the penalty area.

Carlos Augusto met the ball with a powerful strike that nestled into Madrid's goal, pulling one back for Inter to bring the score to 1-2.

This goal shifted the entire atmosphere of the match. Inter now had renewed hope of leaving the Bernabéu with at least a point.

After Carlos Augusto's goal, the Nerazzurri kept pressing forward searching for an equaliser. Madrid were forced to work far harder to defend their narrow lead.

However, no additional goals were scored for the remainder of the match.

Madrid secured the final 2-1 victory over Inter Milan.
