Real Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with a victory over Inter Milan. Playing at the Santiago Bernabeu in the early hours of Wednesday 9 September WIB, Los Blancos secured a 2-1 win after capitalising on two fatal defensive blunders from the visiting side.

Kylian Mbappé was one of the goalscorers for Madrid in this victory. The French forward put Los Blancos ahead in the 14th minute, before another error from Inter's goalkeeper handed the home side a second advantage nine minutes later.

Inter attempted to break out of Madrid's pressure. However, the relentless pressing deployed by Jose Mourinho's squad left Nerazzurri's backline unable to build out their organised play.

Mbappé Capitalises On Inter's Mistake

Madrid did not take long to convert their pressure into a goal. In the 14th minute, Inter lost possession just outside their penalty box after failing to cope with Madrid's press. The ball then fell to the feet of Brahim Díaz.

Brahim Díaz did not waste the opportunity, laying the ball off perfectly to Mbappé who was positioned in an ideal scoring spot.

Mbappé showed his composure with a clinical finish. His shot could not be stopped by Josep Martínez.

Madrid went ahead 1-0, with the full momentum of the match swinging firmly in the home side's favour.

This goal perfectly demonstrated how Madrid used high pressing to force their opponents into committing mistakes in dangerous areas of the pitch.

Inter had not even managed to settle into their match rhythm, yet were already forced to chase the game from behind.

Second Error Extends Madrid's Lead

Nine minutes after Mbappé's goal, Inter made another costly defensive mistake.

This time, Josep Martínez was at the centre of the error. The Inter goalkeeper attempted to build out attack with short passes from the backline.

However, his attempt to play around Valverde ended in disaster. Valverde instead stole possession and fired an immediate shot straight into the goal.

Madrid picked up their second goal without needing to construct a long structured attacking move. Inter found themselves 0-2 down in a precarious position before the first half concluded.

Carlos Augusto Revives Inter's Hopes

As the second half got underway, Inter attempted to turn the tide of the match. They increased their forward pressure and looked to find gaps in Madrid's defence.

This effort finally paid off in the 77th minute.

Inter built an attack down the flank before Lautaro Martínez delivered a cross into the penalty box.

Carlos Augusto met the ball with a powerful strike that found the back of Madrid's net. Inter cut the deficit to 1-2.

This goal completely shifted the atmosphere of the match. Inter once again had genuine hope of leaving the Bernabeu with a point.

Following Carlos Augusto's goal, the Nerazzurri kept up constant pressure as they searched for an equaliser. Madrid were forced to dig deep and work far harder to defend their narrow lead.

However, no further goals were scored before the final whistle blew.

Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan.
