Persib Bandung has begun preparations ahead of the classic derby fixture against Persija Jakarta for the second matchweek of the 2026/27 BRI Super League. Persib head coach Igor Tolic assessed that both teams hold equal odds to win the match, which will be held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta on Saturday 12 September at 15.30 WIB.
"Right now I am mostly focused on our own squad, specifically confirming which players will be fully fit. Persija have a very solid team, but so do we. This will be a 50-50 contest," stated Igor via Persib's official media page.
Tolic chose not to conduct a deep breakdown of Persija's strengths. The Croatian manager is instead prioritising ensuring his entire squad reaches peak condition, after only having a very limited recovery period between fixtures.

Final best available squad selection will only be confirmed once the coaching staff finish evaluating the latest condition of every player.
While keeping his main focus on his own team, Tolic has still monitored Persija's developments. He observed that the Macan Kemayoran side now operates with a far more stable defensive line compared to their previous form.
For Tolic, maintaining a secure defence is the fundamental first step to build winning opportunities. Once a backline is holding reliably, a team can operate with far more freedom to build attacking play and create goalscoring chances.
"That's just how it works. If you have a good defence that does not concede, you already have the solid foundation needed to win. On top of that, both Persija and our side have quality up front that can decide matches - scoring from set pieces or open play. But above all else, the defence must remain stable," Igor explained.
Persib travel to Jakarta with positive momentum, after beating PSM Makassar 3-1 during the first matchweek of the BRI Super League.
While this victory acts as good preparation before facing Persija, Tolic has refused to let his squad rely on their previous match result. The next focus is carrying this positive forward into what will be an entirely different style of fixture.
Physical conditioning is the top priority for the squad at this stage, due to the very short recovery window between matches.
This fixture at the main Gelora Bung Karno Stadium will bring its own unique challenges for Persib. Persija will carry huge motivation to claim victory in front of their home supporters.
Tolic's 50:50 prediction perfectly reflects just how closely contested this match is expected to be. Persib carry winning momentum into the tie, while Persija hold the home ground advantage.
