Lamine Yamal has once again written his name into the UEFA Champions League history books. The Barcelona young star has broken Kylian Mbappé's record to become the teenager with the most goal contributions in the history of Europe's elite club competition.

This record was set during Barcelona's opening Champions League league phase fixture against Feyenoord. Yamal was involved in three of Barcelona's goals as they secured a dominant 5-1 victory over the Dutch side.

Yamal first turned provider for Barcelona's opening goal. Before the match had even reached the 3rd minute, the Spanish international played a pass to Raphinha, who beat Feyenoord defenders before firing home.

With 12 minutes remaining of the match, Yamal scored Barcelona's fourth goal with a direct free kick.

Shortly afterwards, Yamal once again demonstrated his playmaking ability. He provided an assist for Gabriel Jesus, who netted Barcelona's fifth goal to round off the Blaugrana's goal fest.

According to Opta data, following this latest performance, Yamal has now been directly involved in 23 Champions League goals. This breakdown consists of 12 goals and 11 assists.

This tally surpasses Mbappé's previous record. Opta records show Mbappé registered a total of 20 Champions League goal contributions during his teenage years.

With this, Yamal now officially holds the record for the most goal contributions by any teenager in the entire history of the UEFA Champions League.

This milestone is yet another demonstration of how rapidly the Barcelona talent has established his legacy in European club football.

Yamal Breaks Record Amid Ballon d'Or Discussions

Yamal's achievement carries extra weight as it came mere hours after he made public comments regarding the Ballon d'Or race.

The young Barcelona star has become one of the central talking points in the race for football's most prestigious individual award.

When asked about his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or during a press conference on Monday, Yamal opted against making bold public declarations of ambition.

"I don't feel the need to say that I deserve this award. To be completely honest, it is not something that I am currently focused on", he stated.

Yamal instead shifted the focus onto the achievements he has secured with Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

"I am proud of my club and my country. We have become world champions, and for me that is more than enough. As for the award, that is for the journalists to judge. I will not be asking anyone to vote for me", he added.

Yamal's comments came just one day after Mbappé spoke publicly about his own ambition to claim the Ballon d'Or.

The Real Madrid forward openly confirmed that winning the award remains an active target for him.

"I believe there is still a real chance to win it this year. That is why this award remains one of my targets. If I could pick the winner myself, of course I would pick myself", Mbappé said.

The clear contrast in approach between the two players quickly became a widely discussed topic. However, Yamal delivered the most powerful response on the pitch: creating goals, scoring himself, and driving Barcelona to a convincing big win.

This latest record only further cements Yamal's status as one of the most productive young players in the entire history of the UEFA Champions League.

His accomplishment stands out even more when noting that he has reached this milestone at a far younger age than Mbappé was when the Frenchman began establishing his reputation as one of the world's elite forwards.
