PSG Wins the 2026 UEFA Super Cup, Equalling the Achievement Records Held by AC Milan and Real Madrid.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) successfully retained the UEFA Super Cup title after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena, Salzburg, Austria, on early Thursday morning 13 August WIB. With this victory, PSG follows the footsteps of AC Milan and Real Madrid as teams that have won the UEFA Super Cup trophy back-to-back.

PSG had previously won the 2025 edition of the tournament after beating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties.

The match against Aston Villa was tightly contested right from the start. PSG played aggressively and attempted to take control of the game.

PSG's first opportunity came through Desire Doue in the 20th minute, which was safely secured by Aston Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot.

PSG's pressure produced a goal shortly afterwards through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian player made a solo run after receiving a pass from Doue before unleashing a powerful shot into the centre of the goal. PSG took a 1-0 lead.

Aston Villa did not stay on the back foot. Unai Emery's side increased their intensity and threatened PSG's defence on multiple occasions.

Brian Madjo created a threat in the 28th minute. However, the 17-year-old youngster's close-range header went wide of the target.

Villa eventually found the equaliser just before half time. Madjo scored with a first-time finish connecting John McGinn's cross in the 45th minute, bringing the score to 1-1.

This goal made Madjo the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history, while also giving Aston Villa positive momentum heading into the second half.

Villa came very close to turning the game around after the break. John McGinn got an opportunity in the 50th minute, but his shot was saved by Matvey Safonov.

PSG then responded with a goal from Desire Doue in the 61st minute. Doue's goal was initially disallowed for offside, but the decision was reversed after the referee reviewed the incident via VAR. The goal was eventually awarded, putting PSG back ahead 2-1.

Following that goal, Aston Villa pushed to find an equaliser, while PSG focused on protecting their lead and relied on counter attacks.

Ultimately, Villa's pressure was not enough to change the outcome. PSG maintained their advantage until the final whistle and secured the UEFA Super Cup trophy once again.

This victory extends PSG's impressive record in European competitions, and places the Parisian club in an elite group alongside AC Milan and Real Madrid as teams that have successfully defended the UEFA Super Cup title consecutively.

Meanwhile, this result extends Unai Emery's poor record. The Spanish head coach has now lost all four UEFA Super Cup matches he has participated in.
