Planning to travel for Indonesia's Independence Day? There is a 17% ticket discount and special IDR 8 fares that will be available on 17 August.

Members of the public wishing to travel by train for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia may take advantage of a special promotion from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). KAI is providing a 17 percent discount on commercial economy class long-distance train tickets for travel on 17 August 2026.

On the same day, members of the public may also enjoy the special IDR 8 fare for Jabodebek LRT and selected Commuter Line services. This programme forms part of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations, which carry the theme "Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia" this year.

KAI hopes that this promotion will provide wider opportunities for members of the public to travel using public transport.

For the 17 percent discount promotion, KAI has allocated 67,120 seats across commercial economy class long-distance trains operating in Java and Sumatra.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the Independence momentum presents an opportunity to expand public access to public transport, while also providing more affordable travel options.

"Independence is a moment of togetherness. Through the 17% discount and IDR 8 fare scheme, we wish to open up wider opportunities for the public to use public transport, and make travels on 17 August part of the Independence celebration," said Bobby.

KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba explained that members of the public may purchase promotional tickets starting from 00:01 WIB on 14 August 2026, up until 23:59 WIB on 17 August 2026. This promotion only applies for departures on 17 August 2026, between 00:01 and 24:00 WIB.

"KAI is providing 67,120 commercial economy train seats at promotional fares for 17 August 2026. The public may utilise the 17% discount for as long as the allocated promotional ticket stock remains available," Anne stated.

Ticket purchases may be made via the Access by KAI mobile application or through the official KAI website. This discounted fare may not be combined with any other reduction or discount programmes, however tickets remain eligible for cancellation or schedule rescheduling in accordance with applicable terms and conditions.

Alongside intercity travel, KAI is also rolling out the special IDR 8 fare to support public mobility in multiple cities. This fare applies for the Jabodebek LRT, Jabodetabek Commuter Line, as well as Local Trains serving Jakarta Region I, Bandung Region II, Yogyakarta Region VI, and Surabaya Region VIII.

This IDR 8 fare however does not apply for the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line service.

"Customers may utilise train services both for intercity travel as well as daily mobility in Jabodetabek, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. We hope this special fare will make it easier for the public to reach activity hubs, public spaces, tourist destinations, and all of the various Independence commemoration events," said Anne.

KAI advises the public to plan their trips in advance, and double-check travel schedules as well as promotion terms prior to completing any transaction. Travel information and full discount programme details may be obtained via the Access by KAI application, official KAI website, or the KAI Contact Center at 121.
