Cincinnati Open 2026: Janice Tjen's Opportunity to Bounce Back After Being Eliminated in Toronto

Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen has obtained seeded status at the 2026 Cincinnati Open. Janice is placed as the 32nd seed for this WTA 1000 tournament, held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, United States.

This seeded status brings advantages for the 23-year-old athlete. Janice receives a first-round bye, meaning she will only begin her tournament run from the second round.

The Cincinnati Open serves as a critical stage for Janice to regain competitive momentum, following unsatisfactory results at the 2026 WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada.

Janice was knocked out in the first round of the singles draw after a hard-fought tight match against seeded opponent Liudmila Samsonova. Her campaign in the doubles category also ended early.

Partnered with Polish tennis player Katarzyna Piter, Janice lost against the Australian-American pairing of Storm Hunter and Desirae Krawczyk in the first round.

Despite this setback, Janice's performance trajectory over the recent season shows promising progress. Prior to competing in Toronto, she had already secured multiple doubles titles.

Alongside Piter, Janice won the 2025 Guangzhou Open and 2026 Hobart International. Outside of this partnership, she also claimed the 2026 Birmingham Classic title in June alongside Australian player Talia Gibson.

Cincinnati marks the next challenge for Janice. This tournament features a 96-player singles draw and brings together competition from almost all of the world's elite tennis players.

Nine out of the world's top 10 female tennis players are participating in this event. Aryna Sabalenka is the first seed, followed by Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff.

Other prominent competitors including Mirra Andreeva, Linda Noskova, Iga Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova, Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk are also all competing for the championship title.

The 2026 Cincinnati Open also features multiple former tournament champions. Sabalenka won the title in 2024, Gauff claimed the tournament victory in 2023, while Swiatek enters as the defending champion after lifting the 2025 trophy.

Last year, Swiatek defeated Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4 in the final match. That victory became the 11th WTA 1000 title of the Polish player's professional career.

The first round of the Cincinnati Open will take place on 13-14 August, followed by the second round on 15-16 August. Third round fixtures are scheduled for 17-18 August, before the Round of 16 is held on 19 August.

Quarter-final matches will be played on 20-21 August, semi-finals on 22 August, while the tournament final is scheduled to take place on 23 August.
