Head coach John Herdman's Indonesia national team squad for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup is nearly complete. A total of 21 players have assembled in Jakarta, including Luke Vickery and Maarten Paes who had previously been fulfilling commitments with their respective club sides.

Shayne Pattynama received a late call-up. The Persija Jakarta defender was summoned by Herdman on Sunday to complete the squad roster ahead of Group A competition.

Luke Vickery Excited For International Debut

Amid ongoing preparations, focus has fallen on Luke Vickery. The Macarthur FC striker will make his first ever appearance for the Indonesia national team, and has embraced the opportunity with clear enthusiasm.

Via Instagram Story, Vickery addressed Indonesian supporters and confirmed this tournament will mark the start of his international career with the Garuda Squad.

"Hello national team fans, this will be my first ever tournament representing the national side," he posted.

Vickery stated he cannot wait to take the pitch in front of home supporters, and hopes to deliver meaningful contributions if selected to play.

“I am ready to give absolutely everything to help this team lift the trophy,” Vickery added.

Maarten Paes' Message To Indonesia National Team Supporters

Alongside Vickery, Maarten Paes is another high-profile arrival drawing attention. The Indonesian goalkeeper landed in Jakarta immediately after Ajax Amsterdam completed their 2026/27 Dutch Eredivisie fixture against Excelsior.

Paes was named on the bench for that Sunday match at the Amsterdam Arena. Marc-Andre ter Stegen started in goal, with the fixture ending 2-2.

Paes has now shifted his full focus to national team duties. He emphasized that fan support will be a vital factor for the squad throughout the group stage.

“This will not be easy, we are facing very strong opposition. That is why we need every single fan right behind us from the first minute to the final whistle,” Paes stated, referring to 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Group A Division 1 where Indonesia are drawn alongside Malaysia, Singapore and Bangladesh.
