Eugenia Diva Wins Bronze, Indonesia Competes in 15 Sports at the 2026 Asian Games

Nagoya, Japan – Indonesian wushu athlete Eugenia Diva Widodo claimed a bronze medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. Eugenia finished third in the women's changquan category after a tightly contested battle that went down to the final athlete's performance at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall on Monday (21/9/2026).

Eugenia recorded 9.706 points, falling just 0.007 points short of Hong Kong athlete Sham Hyl, who secured the gold medal with a score of 9.713. The silver medal was awarded to Macau athlete Sou Cho Man, who finished with 9.710 points.

This marks Eugenia's first ever Asian Games medal. At the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, she only managed to place sixth overall.

Briefly Led The Standings

Performing as the fourth athlete in the event, Eugenia temporarily held the top position on the scoreboard immediately after completing her routine.

She received 5.00 points for movement quality, 2.706 points for overall performance execution, and 2.00 points for difficulty level, combining for her total 9.706 score.

Her lead was soon overtaken by Sou Cho Man, who posted a 9.710 point total.

The close competition continued right until the final performance. Sham Hyl then recorded 9.713 points to claim the gold, while Sou Cho Man settled for silver.

"I am really satisfied with today's match. I managed to execute every single thing I have been training for all this time," Eugenia stated after the competition.

According to Eugenia, the contest was extremely competitive, with only negligible point gaps separating all participating athletes.

"It was incredibly tight, the score differences are tiny. Every single athlete competing here is also a world champion caliber competitor," she added.

Matched Pre-Event Target

Eugenia confirmed that this bronze medal result aligned exactly with the target she had set before the tournament began.

She expressed hope that this achievement at Aichi-Nagoya will be the starting point for her to make even greater contributions for Indonesia in future competitions.

"I hope this becomes my first step to keep bringing proud results for Indonesia," Eugenia told the Antara news agency.

Fellow Indonesian representative Andrea Simon did not manage to break into the top rankings, finishing in 12th place with a final score of 9.603.

One day prior, Seraf Naro Siregar had already earned another bronze medal for Indonesia in the men's changquan event with a score of 9.720.

Indonesia Competing Across 15 Sports

Eugenia's medal came on a very busy competition day for the Indonesian contingent on Monday (21/9/2026).

On this same day, Indonesian athletes were scheduled to compete in 15 different sports, spread across the Aichi, Tokyo and Gifu competition clusters. Events ran from early morning until late evening.

Alongside wushu, Indonesian representatives were scheduled to compete in soft tennis, karate, shooting, basketball, swimming, hockey, mixed martial arts, indoor volleyball and beach volleyball.

Soft Tennis And Karate Fixtures

At the Aichi competition cluster, soft tennis was one of the sports fielding multiple Indonesian entries.

Mixed doubles pair Rizky Zammy Febrian Laluyani / Alif Nafiah were scheduled to face representatives from Chinese Taipei and Pakistan. Meanwhile the pairing Fernando Sanger / Siti Nur Arasy were drawn to compete against athletes from Laos, Cambodia and host nation Japan.

In karate, Indonesia fielded representatives for both individual and team kata events.

Komang Sudarnita, Ni Ketut Maharani, Muhammad Negara, Christopher Edbert Setiabudi and Cindy Marcrasputri Citra are listed on Indonesia's karate squad. They were scheduled to compete against athletes from Sri Lanka, Japan, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Qatar and Bahrain.

Basketball And Shooting

Basketball also featured on Indonesia's daily competition schedule. The senior women's national basketball team were drawn to face China in Group A, while the women's 3x3 basketball team will play fixtures against Singapore and South Korea.

In shooting, Anang Febrian, Fathur Gustafian and Kanurian Al Ghosh were scheduled to compete in the men's team 10 metre air rifle event.

Yemima Natalia Sinaga will represent Indonesia in the women's skeet competition.

Other events hosted at the Aichi cluster included mixed martial arts, indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, full court basketball and 3x3 basketball.

Swimming And Women's Hockey

Multiple Indonesian swimmers were scheduled to compete at the Tokyo competition cluster.

I Gede Siman Sudartawa and Jason Donovan Yusuf contested the men's 50 metre backstroke. Flairene Candrea Masriani Wolf competed in the women's 50 metre backstroke event.

Jason Donovan Yusuf and Samuel Maxson Septionus also entered the men's 50 metre freestyle. Adelia Chantika Aulia raced in the women's 200 metre freestyle, while Arya Adrean Putra Haryono competed in the men's 100 metre breaststroke.

Indonesia also fielded a team for the men's 4x200 metre freestyle relay.

Meanwhile at the Gifu cluster, the Indonesian women's national hockey team were scheduled to face India in their Pool B fixture at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.

Wushu Extends Indonesia's Medal Tally

Following Eugenia's medal, Indonesia's total Games tally stood at six medals at the time of reporting, consisting of one silver and five bronze medals overall.

Two of these medals have come from the wushu competition, earned by Seraf Naro Siregar and Eugenia Diva Widodo respectively.

For Eugenia personally, this Aichi-Nagoya bronze is far more than just an additional medal. It represents her first ever Asian Games achievement, and the reward for competing through an exceptionally tight field in the women's changquan division.
